I HAVE always campaigned for more retail provision on the Northgate site in Devizes to be included in a mixed development.
I am disappointed with the present proposals and have contested them at every opportunity.
The fate of the site was sealed at a Kennet District Council meeting on March 10 2003 when councillors agreed to a scheme naming only one site, the Dillon's Store, for retail development.
I voted against the scheme because it lacked retail, open space and leisure facilities. I was the only councillor who voted against it.
Devizes Conservative and Guardian councillors supported and voted for this watered down version of the vision.
I could have done with some support when this crucial vote took place. The battle was then. It's no good complaining now.
