A TRUCK has left west Wiltshire for Sri Lanka loaded with more than 1,000 boxes full of aid for victims of the tsunami.
Tina Greedy, 37, of Bowmans Court, Melksham, who organised the collection, is over the moon with the response.
She said: "I'm absolutely delighted. The generosity is just overwhelming. Everything in the boxes is brand new. It's going to make such a difference to people out there."
The 26-tonne truck left on Wednesday, after local schoolchildren helped load it full of the boxes outside her house.
Northumberland-based charity Mercy Trucks teamed up with Miss Greedy to provide the vehicle and charity director Roy Nixon will travel with it to Sri Lanka.
Once there it will deliver aid to refugee camps and homeless victims of the tidal wave.
Collection points were set up across Wiltshire and people were urged to donate items such as shampoo, toilet paper, razors and nappies.
