THE MAYOR of Swindon Coun Peter Stoddart has been on a tour of the BMW factory to see what it holds for the future of the town.
Coun Stoddart was joined by a group of Swindon councillors, including the council's cabinet member for finance, Coun Nick Martin, Coun David Renard (Con, Haydon Wick) and Derique Montaut (Lab, Moredon) who worked for 26 years as a senior shop steward at Swindon Pressings.
Coun Stoddart said: "We were invited along to see what was happening and what they have planned.
"They really have invested a tremendous amount and it's an impressive building.
"We talked about how well they're doing and how much they have invested in the town.
"It was very interesting to see all the latest things they have going on.
"It makes you feel that they will be successful for the next few years to come. They look really buoyant for the future."
And Coun Martin added: "In the last few years we have been a little bit out of touch with the factory so they brought us in gave us a presentation and a tour and it was very interesting to see what they have done recently. They expect to be making minis there for the next 20 years."
