POLICE are appealing for information after two men tried to force their way into a woman's house to commit a crime.
They called at her home in Stamford Close, Toothill, at about 6pm yesterday and asked whether they could turn off her water.
After failing to produce identification they tried to push past the woman.
But they later left without gaining entry.
There are no descriptions for the men from the police but one is believed to have at least left in some sort of motor vehicle.
According to Home Office statistics 38,000 pensioners in the UK were victims of distraction burglary between 2001 and 2003.
Anyone with information about the latest incident should telephone Swindon Police on 01793 528111 or Crime-stoppers on 0800 555111 as soon as possible.
