CHIPPENHAM NEWS: DEMOLITION of the former Goldiggers nightclub is drawing to a close as developers are finalising a new name for the site.
Building teams have cleared much of the rubble from the site but are preserving the 1930s frontage so it can be used in the new development.
Judges have been poring over entries to find a winner to name the new development, which will include 49 flats for the elderly and ground level shops.
A spokesman for Churchill Retirement Living said: "There are two different names for the building which are being considered at the moment and we have been going back and forth to the local council to decide on a suitable name and to find a winning entry."
Demolition is expected to be completed by the end of March and building of the new flats will begin later this year.
Wiltshire County Council archaeologists are also waiting for the site to be cleared before continuing a search for remnants of a medieval castle believed to be hidden underneath the former nightclub.
