SWINDON is a comparatively small town compared to our many large cities. You would expect the crime figures to reflect this.
Is it my imagination or is crime increasing? On picking up the Adver recently I read about two men being viciously assaulted and robbed; a burglar robbing two women and punching one in the face; a teenager mugged on his bike for his mobile and a woman threatening to kill a child. Not to mention a serious theft of antiques and a cat shot dead.
No doubt I will be informed by the powers that be that crime is falling in our town with the statistics to prove it. Quite frankly I don't believe it. Are our eyes and ears deceiving us, the working class people who have to live with this disgraceful situation on a daily basis?
Tough on crime says Tony. It would be laughable if it wasn't so serious. I have spoken to many people too scared to go into town at night. Some old people are too frightened to go into town in broad daylight. Until our police are allowed to do their job properly there will be no improvement.
