SUPERMARINE cruised past Pewsey Vale 27-0 in Dorset and Wilts One North. After their last-ditch defeat at the hands of Swindon seconds last week, Supermarine were determined to put in an improved display.

Injuries caused them to field a makeshift side, but the players brought up from the seconds were intent on taking this opportunity to shine.

Playing up the slope Supermarine put pressure on Pewsey, utilising pace out wide to chase ranging kicks from fly-half Hodge.

After a concerted effort the first try came from immense forward pressure, with Bishop emerging from beneath a pile of bodies to claim it. Hodge made the conversion to give Supermarine a 7-0 lead.

The second try was one for the backs with Sheppard going over after the ball went through numerous sets of hands.

Pewsey responded to this with renewed determination and put Supermarine under intense pressure, but the defence held and the score at half -time remained 12-0.

Hodge slotted a penalty in the second half to extend the lead.

The next try was a magnificent solo effort, with Pewsey kicking over the top to Patrick Higgins on his own 22-yard line.

He set off towards midfield and when he got there his acceleration surprised Pewsey so much that only one of their players was able to get a hand on him.

But Higgins was too powerful and shrugged the tackle off to go in under the posts, Hodge slotted the simple conversion to make it 22-0.

Another powerful drive by the forwards led to a try by second row Parks.

The score should have been higher but with a four-man overlap outside him Shaun Higgins attempted to emulate his try-scoring brother and went for the try line himself, but was halted just short.
