JOHN Fisher bravely predicted a Highworth win at table-topping Didcot on the eve of the crucial Premier Division showdown his troops ensured he did not end up with egg on his face.

A goal in each half earned the Swindon outfit a fine 2-0 win at the FA Vase quarter-finalists.

Recent signing Phil Corcoran swooped in the first half and strike partner Matty Saye made the points safe after the interval.

The top four in the division remain unchanged but the result tightens things up a little.

Second-placed Bishops Cleeve had their match postponed, while Slimbridge remain third following a 3-0 win over Pewsey.

Highworth are now six points off top spot with two games in hand.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Lee Clark and Dave Toomey struck for Fairford but the Cinder Lane side slipped to a 4-2 home defeat against North Leigh all six goals were scored in the first half.

Wootton Bassett's four-game unbeaten run came to an insipid end in the Supplementary Cup.

Chris Jones' team were dumped out in the second round by Division One East makeweights Rayners Lane.

It was a dreadful display from start to finish from Bassett the team lacked cohesion and underestimated their opponents' ability.

The first half produced little with Bassett's only decent chance coming when Steve Yeardley spooned over.

It was Rayners Lane that came closest to breaking the deadlock when Michael Mair struck over from close range after Ian Gill parried away a shot.

After the break, Bassett failed to create a solitary chance as long balls over the top only found keeper Tim Piper and most attacks ended abruptly with the Bassett forwards straying offside.

Danny Mills opened the scoring in the 56th minute, easily heading into the far corner after connecting with a free header from a deep ball by defender Graham Small.

Mills then set up the second with five minutes left. Small squared to Mills, who shot from 20 yards.

Gill parried and Darren Gardiner was there unmarked to tap in from six yards to seal a deserved 2-0 victory for the underdogs.
