Supermarine boss Mark Collier was looking for his side to step it up to and put in their biggest performance of the season against fellow strugglers Bedworth on Saturday and he was not disappointed, writes LEIGH MOORE.
A convincing 2-0 victory has eased Division One West relegation fears and has put Marine within touching distance of safety.
In fact, just four points now separate Marine from 11th place in the table.
Marine got off to a dream start, going a goal to the good inside 45 seconds.
The makeshift attacking trio of Steve Davies, Tony Joyce and Giles Harris all involved in what was a fine team goal.
A long ball from the Marine backline was flicked on by Davies.
Joyce spotted the run from Harris and supplied a sublime ball that caught the visitors short. Harris stayed calm to round keeper Lee Evans and give his side an early lead.
The home side, lifted by the early goal, dominated and Harris was unlucky not to see himself bag a brace.
A Chris Copp centre was poorly defended and Harris' follow up shot was parried by Evans.
JP Mills was again formidable in the centre of the park and continues to provide Marine with a different dimension.
He saw a well-struck volley strike a Bedworth body before being hacked away to safety.
It took until the 15th minute to see the visitors test Tom King and when the situation arose the home keeper was equal to the strike of David Willis. Paul Spacey tried his luck with a speculative drive but again King was untroubled.
Supermarine continued to lead at the interval but were a lot more comfortable than the narrow 1-0 scoreline would suggest.
After the break Collier's men continued to control the running and Davies was unlucky to see his far-post header tipped behind by Evans.
Marine lost Harris through injury before Mills opened up Bedworth with an intelligent run before turning in a cross that was headed home by Nathan Edwards.
Adie Adams and Copp both saw genuine penalty appeals turned down, the latter of the two looking certain to score from a Davies cross before being impeded.
The flow of the last 10 minutes was disrupted with the sending off of Mills for a dubious second booking, which took the shine off another excellent showing from Collier's recent acquisition.
SUPERMARINE: King, Copp, Howell, Jenkins, Emms, Bennett, Mills, Joyce (Palmer 73), Harris (Adams 59), Davies, Edwards. Subs not used: Jones, Miles.
