New College put themselves back in the Premier Division title hunt when they defeated second-in-the-table Corsham 3-0 on their own ground, writes RAY BURROUGHS.

Leaders Bradford Town were also beaten at Melksham to throw the title race wide open.

College always looked the better side in the first half and could have gone in at the break with more to show than their one-goal lead, scored when a cross from Scott Lane was turned into the net by a defender.

The home team came into the game at the start of the second period but the Swindon side made sure of victory when David Pratt hit a cracking shot into the top corner and Scott Lane lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box to chalk up a third.

Manager Pete Horwat was delighted with the result and said: "We deserved the victory, the lads played some outstanding football at times and we have got to use the result to get another good run going. "With both the top teams losing we have got another chance to mount a challenge for the title."

Another manager pleased with the weekend's results was Cricklade boss Graham Jackson whose side are still in with a shout.

He said: "We were 3-1 down at one stage against a strong Westbury outfit but the lads fought well in the second half to run out winners 4-3."

Cricklade took the lead with a strike from Steve Tucker and then were hit by three goals in 15 minutes two from Gerard O'Prey and one from Jamie Bradley.

Martin Swaddon pulled a goal back just before the break and in a rousing second half, goals from Steve Read and Matt Charlton gave the visitors a deserved victory.

Yet another relieved manager was Purton Reserves boss Gary Brown who saw his side register their third win of the season, defeating Malmesbury Vics 2-0.

"We deserved our win, we had the right attitude, looked comfortable on the ball and it was a game we needed to win," said Brown.

Purton took the lead on the half hour when Paul Gillett broke down the left and his shot was fumbled and Adam Woolford was on hand to hit the loose ball home.

Ben Jarrett sealed victory from the spot.

AFC Stratton were out of luck again, losing to Devizes by the only goal of the game scored by Simon Drewett.

Gary Higdon did the damage for a youthful Melksham side scoring a goal in each half to beat Bradford 2-1.

Bromham were not at their best against Marlborough but still managed to run out 2-1 winners.
