A WOMAN who escaped the Asian tsunami has collected more than 50 mobile phones to send to Sri Lanka.
In January Alison Mitchell appealed to Adver readers to donate mobile phones to the survivors of the disaster.
Alison, 44, a quantity surveyor from Liden, says mobile phones in Sri Lanka are expensive, but calls cost very little.
She said: "We're very pleased with the total. It will make a difference to people there.
"We've got the phones now and we'll be sending them over soon."
Alison feels that after the way the people of Sri Lanka helped her this was the least she could do.
She and her partner Keith, 57, were on the Sri Lankan coast in Beruwela when the waves struck.
They collected the phones in buckets at the Liden Arms pub, in Liden and at the Liden Community Centre.
