A CHARITY which faces funding cuts claims no other organisation in Wiltshire offers the same service.

The Adver revealed on Friday the names of a number of voluntary organisations in the town which face losing funding under council budget cuts.

Councillor Nick Martin, the council's cabinet member for finance, said charities which offer similar services to other organisations in the town would be cut to save money.

But Madge Clements, director of Swindon Child Carers, hit back saying: "We are not duplicating.

"We provide a service that no one else in the town offers."

The group, based at the Shaftesbury Centre in Rodbourne, has been holding crches so that parents can attend training courses since 1987.

Mrs Clements said: "We are the only mobile crche provision in the county.

"We shall have done 1,070 crches by the end of March over the last year and our target was 1,000 so we have reached that.

"There is a demand for what we do. We are furious because we have done all this work for all this time for all these people.

"I don't think the council actually understands what we do."
