A LORRY that tipped over at Lyneham Banks caused the B4069 to be closed for most of the day.
The 38-tonne articulated lorry overturned near Dauntsey Lock at around 11am yesterday.
The driver managed to escape serious injury.
Brian Newman, 66, a retired panel-beater from Bradenstoke, was on the scene shortly afterwards.
He said: "It was quite dramatic. The lorry was stuck in a very awkward place. The driver was a bit stiff but he is okay.
"The lorry had about 20 tonnes of rubbish on board so they are having to remove that before they can sort things out."
Coun Alison Bucknell, (Con Lyneham) said: "I was caught in the traffic coming up Lyneham Banks. It's creating havoc because the alternative routes are closed for roadworks.
"This happens with monotonous regularity because the lorries use it as a short-cut to Compton Bassett tip.
"The road is completely inappropriate for that size of vehicle. We are trying to get a weight restriction put on it."
