POLICE are repeating their appeal for witnesses after a burglar broke into the home of two women and assaulted one of them.

The man entered the house in the Beatrice Street area and threatened the two residents.

He then punched one of them in the face, leaving her with a fractured cheekbone.

The 41-year-old victim was taken to the Great Western Hospital where she was treated for her injuries.

In spite of being extremely shocked by the ordeal, the women have helped police produce an artist's impression of the man, right, in a bid to interview him.

The intruder stole four mobile phones, a handbag containing cash and a number of other items.

The suspect, who struck at about 6.30pm on Tuesday, February 15, is described as being in his mid-30s, of Mediterranean appearance, with short dark hair, dark brown eyes and with facial stubble.

Police said that both women were shaken by their ordeal and they are keen to hear from anyone who recognises the man or saw a man fitting his description in the Beatrice Street or Cricklade Road area around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information should contact WPC Andrena Rhodes at Swindon CID on 01793 528111.
