A DAY to let the public know about equity release and inheritance tax went down a storm.
The Stroud and Swindon building society branch in Regent Circus, Swindon, held the day aimed at pensioners.
It took the form of a mock 60th birthday party to emphasise that the issues get more pressing as retirement approaches.
Branch manager Mike Davis said: "It was a good day and really busy. Most people don't know the ins and outs of equity release and inheritance tax.
"People are becoming more aware of equity release as house prices increase there are a lot of people who are asset rich but income poor these days.
"But much fewer realise that inheritance tax is going to become a more and more pressing issue. As prices rise, many people suddenly find themselves in a position where they could be drawn in to paying large amounts, and it is about to get stricter."
Last year Stroud and Swindon held a seminar about equity release at the County Ground, with complimentary buses to get people there and back, and is planning further events later this year.
The day was held on February 23.
