A NEW community-based radio station goes on air on May 1 for a four-week trial from studios in Queens Drive.

The station called Swindon Community Broadcasting will include music, literature and community news.

It has received a special licence from OfCom for the test period.

Station manager Ian Rowe, of Haydon View, said: "This is a dream come true for me. I've been a dedicated fan of radio since early Radio Luxemburg days.

"I believe in radio being a real part of the community and this special licence will provide a chance to test the waters and gauge interest."

Live music will feature each evening between 7pm and 8pm and dedicated music programmes from blues to heavy rock each evening from 10pm.

Short stories and poetry will feature regularly.

"We're not going to stretch resources for this four-week run," added Ian.

"It's about putting some great ideas into practice and running with a prototype which we hope will lead to a permanent service in the town."

Musicians from solo artists to bands are invited to call to book one of the evening slots which will be broadcast from professionally set-up recording studios.
