I READ with great interest the report of the abandonment of the junior football match by referee David Leppard.
I ran a junior team for many years and applaud this official for his stance against bullying spectators. The parent, a professional man, should know better. Then again, no one should be allowed to behave in such a manner.
There are too many games without a qualified referee, with so many leaving the game because of idiotic by-standers.
Thank God someone stood up to a bully. My club's motto was "it doesn't matter if you win or lose, but how you play the game".
Remember the next time you watch local football keep your mouths shut and let the ref make mistakes (we all do).
