PLANS to build a car wash in the car park of the Great Western Designer Outlet Village have been rejected by Swindon Council.
Permission for the car wash was rejected at the meeting of the planning committee last night on the grounds that its modern design did not fit in with surrounding buildings.
The application was made by McArthur Glen, which owns the outlet village, and the car wash was due to be built in the coach park area.
Speaking at the meeting planning committee member Doreen Dart (Con, Blunsdon), said: "The main thing I am concerned about is that it looks like something out of a fairground.
"It's not like any other building we've got there.
"We are very specific about what buildings are built there and this just looks like it has been dumped there.
"It looks a complete and utter mess.
"And why anybody would want to get their car cleaned while they were doing their shopping I just don't know. I could not go for it at all."
Members of the New Swindon Company also strongly objected to the car wash on the grounds of its design.
