Michael McKellar, from Toothill, wants to raise the cash to help fund research into Fibromyalgia Syndrome.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition causing widespread pain and fatigue. It was first recognised by the American Medical Association in 1987. The cause is not known and there is no cure.
The 20-year-old said: "My mum Vivienne has had it for four years. This will be my first bodybuilding contest. It's going to be hard but worth it in the end."
Michael, an Oasis Leisure Centre lifeguard, is taking part in the British Natural Bodybuilding Federation's south west championships in Aylesbury. Michael, who has been bodybuilding for four years, said: "I was into swimming and I started bodybuilding to help with that, but I got more and more into it."
The British Natural Bodybuilding Federation promotes drug-free bodybuilding. The winners are drug tested and have a lie detector test. Michael is in the under-21 class in July. To sponsor him call 07834 068297.
