GAZETTE & HERALD: A CORSHAM sandwich business is being investigated by environmental health after a customer claimed he suffered with food poisoning after eating a chicken sandwich .
Carpenter Luke Livesey, 25, claims he was forced to take a sick day from his work place in Slaughterford when he was sick after eating a £1.95 sandwich from Munchies Ltd.
A spokesman for North Wiltshire District Council's Environmental Health confirmed it is investigating the business after receiving a complaint.
A spokesman for Environmental Health said: "The Environmental Health food team will investigate complaints about foods purchased or manufactured in the district, which are suspected of giving rise to ill-health.
"Where there has been a serious breach of food safety it may be appropriate to
pursue the matter in a formal manner which may include prosecution of the
offender."
The sandwich business, on Park Lane
Industrial Estate runs a delivery service to local businesses.
Owner Bob Gooderson who has run the company for 18 years said: "I know the
incident you are talking about and I have no comment."
Mr Livesey of Tormarton Road, Marshfield claims he was sick after eating a chicken and mayonnaise sandwich with lettuce and tomato.
"It's the first time in my whole life I have taken a day off," he said.
"I very rarely buy sandwiches but I just got caught out that day because I didn't have time to make them myself."
Mr Livesey said he started to feel ill when he got home from work.
He said he didn't eat any dinner and went to bed, but hours later he had to get up and was then sick.
"The owner is quite adamant that it was not the sandwich.
"However, I didn't eat anything else that day so there's no doubt in my mind," he said.
Mr Livesey said he doesn't get paid for being off sick and estimates he would have lost at least £70 because he works on a piece rate.
"Ideally I would like them to compensate me," he said.
"I am extremely concerned and angry that this company continues to operate."
He added: "There's no way that I would buy sandwiches off them again.
"It's just not worth it.
"I would rather go hungry than risk being that ill again."
