Angry Wootton Bassett residents have opposed a plan for flats on the former Rosary Health Clinic because they claim it would create an eyesore on the town landscape.
Ten residents from the Rosary and surrounding area attended last week's town council planning meeting to object to the plan submitted by Besthomes Construction Ltd.
The plan includes nine three-storey flats and associated works proposals which residents believe would be totally unsuitable for the town.
The planning committee listened to residents' concerns, before discussing the application.
Councillors then agreed to object the plan.
Wootton Bassett town clerk Jonathan Bourne said: "Three main objections were raised. People felt the proposals were not in keeping with the area and that three-storey buildings were not suitable in a town where most of the surrounding buildings are two-storey.
"Residents were also concerned about parking which they believe is already fairly tight in that area of town.
"They thought this situation would be made worse if the proposals went ahead."
The plan will now be considered by North Wiltshire District Council.
