IN advocating the siting of a Devizes Heritage Centre in the old Assize Courts (Gazette, March 31), P Little is perhaps unaware of the vast archive on Devizes history held by Wiltshire Heritage Library in Long Street.
We have a large collection of photographs of Devizes buildings, businesses and events as well as an unrivalled assemblage of paintings and engravings of old Devizes and bound copies of the Devizes Gazette.
These are all accessible to the public and everyone is welcome to visit the library which is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm but closed on the first Saturday of the month. There is a small charge, with the usual concessions.
Early next year, as a bonus, we shall be putting on a special exhibition of many previously unseen paintings and photographs of the old Sheep Street area of the town, which I hope will attract local people.
