NOW the demolition of the former General Post Office in Fleming Way in Swindon is almost complete, why stop there?
Why not move 20 yards further on and demolish that giant rusting, graffiti-splattered, modern art sculpture the Swindon Big C.
In the years it has been sited in this heavily used pedestrian area it has become a dangerous hazard.
It has sharp edges and will, I am sure, cause some unfortunate passer by a serious injury.
There has never been a plaque on it or around it and I doubt if anyone can recall why it was placed there or of what historical, artistic or cultural significance it is to the citizens of Swindon.
It should either be removed to a safer location or fenced around like the adjoining trees and cleaned up.
With the safety fence painted in yellow and black diagonal stripes it has been used by BMX bikers and skateboarders to practise their gyrations.
Drunks and winos have been slumped over it throwing umpteen litres of Bulmer's Strongbow and the Farnborough wind tunnel-type gales that howl around the nearby high-rise office blocks have blown both ladies and gents into this monstrosity.
I have seen a tall gent with poor eyesight walk into it and break the earpiece off his spectacles.
So come on council, move it or fence it.
