16847WEST Wiltshire MP Dr Andrew Murrison recalled his childhood on Saturday as he officially opened a new scout hut.
The shadow health minister cut the ribbon on the £75,000 building in Meadow Lane, Westbury, to complete a project that began in October 2003.
The new brick headquarters replaces a wooden hut that had housed the 1st Westbury Scouts since 1947 and was demolished in August.
Dr Murrison said: "I was delighted to be involved on this happy occasion. I recall my days as a scout with great affection and my daughters enjoy being brownies in the girl guides locally.
Group spokesman Gareth Morris said: "By Christmas the building was weatherproof. The New Year brought the fitting out stage of the rebuild, toilets, kitchen, heaters and lights all being fitted. Volunteers gave their time to help with the interior decoration. The scouts will be able to enjoy their scouting in one of the best environments in the UK."
