16864KICK boxers fought tiredness and sparred with each other to raise more than £1,600 for new equipment on Sunday.

Members of the Kousei Shin Kai club staged a three and a half hour spar-athon at Westbury Junior School, where it trains.

The money will buy 20 mats to replace the old ones the school and the club currently uses.

Organiser Nicky Hill said: "We were aiming for 12 mats, but we've managed to get to 20 and more. We raised £1,650, but we've still got some money from sponsors to come in."

The spar-athon involved 35 children and adults kick boxing with rotations every two minutes.

Mrs Hill said: "Normally we would be sparring for one and three quarter hours, but we have never done it for that sort of time before.

"We are donating the mats to the school, but we will use them as well so it's good all round."

Jake Pearce, seven, was the top fundraiser among the students with £265. Mrs Hill thanked A&D Taxis, Trowbridge, Town and Country Estates, Westbury, Bohana Technology Ltd, Westbury Print and Club Ice for sponsoring mats.
