MID WILTS YOUTH LEAGUE: CRICKLADE edged out hosts Cosham by a single goal to win their U17 League Cup clash at Leafy Lane on Sunday.
The visitors opened the brighter in the first ten minutes with throughballs by James Palmer and Tommy Johnson putting Matt Buck and Joe Dorey in on goal, but excellent play by the Corsham goalkeeper stopped Cricklade from taking an early lead.
It was the the turn of Cricklade keeper Dave Johnson to produce fine saves, working with defenders Bob Hunt, Jack Nicholl, Dan Goody and James Palmer to keep a a clean sheet.
Thirty minutes into the game, however, some intricate work by Corsham's midfield around the box produced a telling cross that was thumped home to put them 1-0 up.
In the second half, Cricklade again started the brighter and began to dominate.
Eventually the pressure produced a result. In the 77th minute Joe Dorey, under pressure in midfield, laid on an excellent ball to Neil Fisher who after outrunning the Corsham defender produced a powerful shot to equalise.
Cricklade maintained the pressure and a high ball into the box five minutes from time was met by Eddy Wilson who fired the ball at the keeper. The Corsham keeper again saved but the rebound was met by Buck who scored the winning goal.
Salisbury City Juniors held back division leaders Chippenham Town Youth in the first half and were 1-0 ahead at the break.
The second half saw a more even game with both sides scoring taking the score to 2-2.
Both sides battled on to find the winner and in the last five minutes Chippenham found the target twice to finish 4-2 winners.
Lewis Marchmant and Joe Fisher scored for Salisbury. The win moves Chippenham nine points clear of nearest rivals Salisbury.
U11 Division A
TROWBRIDGE Wanderers and Warminster Highbury remain level on points in second place.
Wanderers took the lead in the first half through Jack Miluk then held out until the last minute when Highbury equalised. The second half saw Highbury take the lead but this was cancelled out in the last two minutes when Corey Smitherman scored leaving the final score all square at 2-2.
