CHIPPENHAM SNDAY LEAGUE: WEST Lavington's hopes of claiming a first ever Premier Division title looks to be slipping away after they dropped another vital point on Sunday.

A dire 0-0 stalemate with Dog and Fox Ashley has left them with a mountain to climb.

Sherston Town's first victory in six outings put a massive dent in Box Rovers' dreams, but Rovers only had themselves to blame for the 5-3 defeat as they played the whole game with nine players.

Rovers took the lead through Richard Newman, but found themselves trailing 4-1 at the interval to goals from Antony Vizard (2), Ben Wright and Marc Neale.

Newman pulled one back for Rovers when he slotted home from the spot and Stuart Hymes gave them hope of taking something from the game when he reduced the gap to one.

Rovers then hit the bar and missed three good chances before Shertson's Ed Wilkins settled the game in the final minute with a neat finish.

A great defensive performance from Corsham Cricket Club was the major factor in their 2-0 victory over Maud Heath Sports, but their goal scoring hero was Paul Southway who netted both for the Cricketers.

Southway should have had a hat-trick but somehow he headed over from close range when it looked easier to score.

Biddestone Social were 2-0 up against Bradford News after only eight minutes with both goals from Matt Pratley. The Newsmen hit back through Russell Francis, but Rob Pocock drove home from 18 yards in the 34th minute to give Biddestone a 3-1 victory.

WITH leaders Colerne losing at Calne, Corsham Centre returned to the summit after defeating rivals Holt FC.

Missing a host of their top-name players, Corsham Centre had to call on all their resources.

With the scoreline at 0-0 after 45 minutes the Centre turned on the style in the second period to claim a 4-0 success. Craig Gingell pounced to give them the lead, Russell Gibbings made it 2-0, Simon Gray met Matthew Ralph's pin point cross to add number three and in the final minute Ralph's free kick was flicked on by Gibbings to Liam Ralph to slot home.

Mark Simpson's first goal in two years was unable to prevent Chippenham Police from losing 5-2 at home to Semington Rovers. Simpson added to a Tim Culling goal to put the Police two up before Mike Mansell put through his own net to half the deficit. Stuart Barber levelled for Rovers before Dave Castle fired an impressive hat-trick.

Winsley should have been four goals to the good against North Bradley, but their failure to convert chances led to them falling behind to a Neil Maidment goal.

But Dan Lardner prodded home Winsley's equaliser as the ball dropped from a corner before his toe poke was spilled into his own net by goalkeeper Trainer. The points were finally secured when Lee Ridout finished a fine move with a powerful drive.

The Horse and Groom were indebted to goalkeeper Paul Aland in their 1-1 draw with Chippenham Sports and Social Club. Paul Daly's opener for The Horse was cancelled out by Adie Bray, who netted from the penalty spot to earn the Sports their share of the spoils.

Wingfield and Atworth United shared four goals as their game produced one of the most bizarre own goals ever scored. Andy Harding put Wingfield in front only for Scott Portsmouth to level from a controversial penalty.

Ben Ludwell restored the lead for Wingfield but once again Atworth hit back. Wingfield's Mark Carter levelled the game when he sliced his clearance, 35 yards out, back over his own keeper's head.

AFTER experiencing their first league defeat of the season last Sunday, Christian Malford made an immediate return to winning ways with a 7-2 demolition of Southwick Sports.

Despite trailing to a Gary Rice goal Malford hit back to take a commanding 4-1 lead at the break through a Scott Evans hat-trick and one from Mark Golledge. Chris Beasley, Richard Bruce and another Evans classic completed Malford's tally in the second period while Neil Kendrick netted another consolation.

Sean Harvey's 30 yard cross cum shot put Blue Circle (Sunday) into a shock lead over Potterne.

The Division Two strugglers continued to have the majority of the play but could not find the finishing touch, and Potterne replied with interest to finally coast to a 6-1 triumph.

Ben Giles headed in Jamie Bayes' cross before Andrew Bevan-Witts fired home a rebound and top scorer Johnny Emm rattled in a brace.

Emm completed his hat-trick when he lobbed keeper Ryan Marks and he struck his 35th goal of the season in the dying minutes after more good work from Giles.

The Crown Devizes and King Alfred had to settle for a point each after their 2-2 stalemate. Mark Bolton and Jeff Watkins were on target for the Alfred with Tim Wootton's brace earning the Crown their first point in seven outings.

KINGS Arms (Trowbridge) made it 17 wins on the spin as they opened up a two point gap over FC Bradford, who drew 1-1 at Westbury Rangers, at the top of Division Three.

Kings Arms enjoyed a 4-1 victory against Sir Audley Arms who rattled the woodwork before Stuart Shipway headed them ahead. The Arms then took control and won the match with goals from Scott Askew, Pete Spong, Sam Simpson and Lee Murden.

Jamie Duggan was on target for FC Bradford in their 1-1 draw with Westbury Rangers who replied through Shane Rendell.

After two defeats on the bounce, Virgin Mobile recorded a 5-1 win over the already relegated Classic FC, who went in front through Paul Hussey. But Dave Kempthorne, Matthew Stevens, Justice Ofosu-Apeasah, Ian standing and Stuart Avery hit Virgin's winning goals.

Ten-man Somerford FC were the highest scorers of the day as they brushed aside Old Road Tavern 8-3.

Tavern themselves finished the game a man light after they lost Paul Mannings to injury.

Mark Clarke hit a hat-trick in his last game until November as he sits out a suspension. Chris Yeo (2), Jason Martin, Gary Chandler and Richard Chandler added the others.

Gavin Aplin scored two in reply, both from the penalty spot, while Tavern's third came from Scott Nash who thumped home from 25 yards.

AFC Melksham stopped the rot of more than a dozen losses with a 2-2 draw against local rivals AFC Pilot.

Melksham's Andy Harrison curled in the opener before Tony Couch forced in an equaliser. Melksham retook the lead when Doug Stewart played an excellent ball to Alex Locke who finished with a cool header but Chris Bishop was on hand to tap home Pilot's second equaliser.

Cooper Avon and Fascia Graphics also shared a 2-2 draw. Andy Morrison put Cooper 1-0 up, but Mark Smith tied the scores for Fascia before Marcus Underwood reclaimed the lead for Cooper from the penalty spot. But once again Smith struck to earn Fascia a point.

Wanderers, who were hammered 9-0 by AFC Calne last time out, made an instant return to form with a 3-2 defeat of KSM.

An excellent move between Ollie Turner and James Starr resulted in Starr flicking the ball onto Nick Tate who finished from 18 yards to put Wanderers in front. Tate then turned provider as he delivered the perfect ball to Starr whose diving header made it 2-0. Aaron Pearce dragged KSM back but an exquisite back heal from Dylan Turner to Ki Leather resulted in Leather crashing home Wanderers' third. Five minutes from time Husband missed a penalty for KSM but there was still time for them to score a second through Steve Woodhead.

In-form Plough threw away a 2-0 and 3-1 lead as Pack Horse Rangers hit back to claim a 4-3 victory.

Jamie Reeve's first goal of the season was quickly followed by a Mark Reynolds effort as Plough were 2-0 up after 15 minutes.

Substitute Simon Reid crossed for Shahram Hemmati to head home before Sean Rushmore headed Rangers level which left Derby to set up Stuart Deacon to hit Rangers' winner.
