A COUPLE who could not return to the house where their baby son died have been given the keys to a new home.
Bella Smyth and partner Sean McLellam are now looking forward to moving into the house in East Walcot.
The good news comes after a six-week wait following the sudden death of their three-month-old son Devon Rhys McLellam- Smyth.
Devon died suddenly at home in Lilac Court, Pinehurst, on February 24.
And since the tragedy the family have not been able to face going back to the house where it happened.
Bella, 28, and Sean, 35, were too distraught and said there were so many painful memories they could never go back.
Since Devon died, the couple, and Bella's six-year-old son Christian, have been staying with Bella's sister, Tracey Smyth, 30, at Munro Close.
But it was cramped and the three of them had to sleep in one double bed because there was not enough room for all of them.
Then after a desperate struggle to be re-housed Bella said that she was left feeling isolated, being passed back and forth from Swindon Council and her housing association landlord.
However, following a report in the Advertiser last month, the family was eventually told they were on the top of the housing list.
And this week the council handed the couple, who are unemployed, the keys to their new home at Lennox Drive, East Walcot.Bella said: "This is what we have been waiting for. We're really glad."
"The best thing is it's got a garden, our last house didn't. It's good, Christian will be able to go outside and play.
"This house will give us a fresh start."
Bella said Devon died of cot death and a coroner confirmed it was natural causes.
