THE new High Sheriff of Wiltshire says he has enjoyed his first week in the role. David Margesson was officially sworn in at a ceremony at Swindon Magistrates Court last Friday.
Mr Margesson said: "It's been a busy first week with five or six appointments and it's all going very well."
Mr Margesson, who was awarded the MBE in the Birthday Honours in 2002, has wasted no time in getting to grips with what he sees as a personal crusade to help tackle debt among teenagers.
The 68-year-old, who has been a magistrate for more than 30 years, said: "I'm launching a new thing called Debt Cred which is to tell school leavers about the problem of debt and I've been trying to find a sponsor.
"I have already been dealing with things and I want to get that underway."
And he has been getting advice about how to make a success of being High Sheriff.
"I've met a former sheriff who has been telling me about all the things I should and shouldn't do," he said.
