76868-02SCHOOLCHILDREN have been getting stuck into montage with a musical theme as part of a week of creativity.
The Creative Arts Week workshop at the University of Bath's Oakfield campus in Swindon is designed to get youngsters thinking about their next step.
Pauline Pratt, director of creative art for Creative Arts Week, said: "There have been lots of activities that you wouldn't have in the school curriculum, the aim being to encourage youngsters to think about going onto university or college."
Yesterday the 11 to 14 year-olds from a number of Swindon schools were creating musical instruments out of card, designing posters of their favourite bands and making musical notes out of sheet music.
They were split into two groups and spent half the time on the theme of music and the other on dance.
"They have been enjoying it and getting a lot out of it," said Pauline.
"They've said they would like to come back in the summer."
Today they will be showing off their drumming skills and giving a tai chi demonstration to their family and friends.
The work they produced throughout the week will go on display in the site's main hall.
The initiative was run as a pilot last year but has proved so successful this week's session was oversubscribed.
