THE INDOOR season draws to a close next weekend with the staging of the men's National Indoor finals in Melton Mowbray.
Westlecot will have representation in all four of the major national championships, singles, pairs, triples and fours, in Melton as they took the honours in all of the area 16 finals in these events.
The quartet of Mel Biggs, Jamie Titcombe, Mark Dyer and skip Neil Hope begin Westlecot's bid for a first men's national indoor title since the club was formed 22 years ago in 1983.
On the other hand the ladies have already notched up two national titles and gone extremely close on a couple of other occasions when beaten in finals.
The men's fours championship begins today and in the first round (last 32) Westlecot face a quartet from Nottingham skipped by Stuart Smith. If successful they will face Thornaby (Teesside) or Tye Green (Essex) in the next round.
Then on Monday, April 11, the trio of Mike Jackson, Graham Hatherall and Ian Jefferies start their bid for glory in the triples when they meet their old adversaries from along the M4 Desborough (Maidenhead).
Hatherall and Jackson are the only players from Westlecot to reach two finals.
They team up on Wednesday, April 13, to contest the national pairs.
In their opening game they face host club Melton who are represented by current England junior international Chris Rodgers and senior international Les Gillett.
The final member from Westlecot to book a place at Melton Mowbray is Denny Cup skipper Neil Smith in the singles which start on Thursday evening, April 14.
Smith faces Featherstone's John Whiteley in the last 32.
