76903-37JUDGES had a hard time picking this year's Wootton Bassett carnival princess. They said the standard was one of the highest ever, but eventually settled on a winner 12-year-old Nicola Georgiou.
The Wootton Bassett School pupil was selected from three contenders and had to answer questions from the panel of judges, such as 'What's your favourite hobby?'
"When I was younger I dreamt of being carnival princess, but I wasn't sure how to go about it," she said. "I've enjoyed taking part and I'm quite surprised to be chosen, but very glad."
Her attendants will be her sister, Catherine Georgiou, eight, who goes to St Bartholomew's School, and seven-year-old Jone Minor, a pupil at Wootton Bassett Infants School.
Mary Harrison, the chairman of the carnival committee, thinks being able to dress up for the carnival make the girls feel very special.
She said: "They get asked to go along to other events during the year, all dressed up.
"They are important because they add to the attraction of the day."
The carnival will run from Friday, May 13 to Sunday, May 22.
During the ten days a host of activities are being planned. Arts and crafts and orchestra performances will lead up to the grand procession on May 21, with the princess and her attendants
