AFTER the collapse of talks to save MG Rover, Chinese motor giant Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation is considering plans to build Rover cars in China.
SAIC purchased the rights to build the Rover 75, pictured, the Rover 25 and the K-series engine for £67 million four months ago and engineers have since spent time in the UK learning about production techniques.
SAIC said: "It is possible we could make these cars in Shanghai, but before we can do this we would have to get permission from BMW to use the Rover name."
BMW says it would not reject a legitimate request to use the name.
