Swindon were crowned Southern Counties North champions after an impressive 65-0 win away at third- placed Drifters.

Eleven tries, including a hat trick for skipper Paul Wakefield, ensured the league title in style and dashed any hopes Drifters had of a play-off place.

Hooker Scott Chapman opened the scoring within three minutes of the kick off. The boot of Neil Maycock had gained good field position and from the line out, a catch and drive saw Chapman at the back for the touchdown.

A second try came within two minutes when a planned backs move saw centre Stuart Cock dance around the defence to score, and he added a second later in the half in similar style.

From a scrum in centre field, a break down the blind side saw scrum half Connal Knott race away. He got within a couple of metres of the try line before drawing the covering defence and firing a great inside ball to wing Nathan Warren in support who touched down under the posts. Scott Chapman converted.

The skipper then got his first of the day as he spotted a gap and beat the covering defence to score.

Maycock himself then got himself on the score sheet after quality work by the forwards had gained field position.

From open play Maycock dummied his opposite man and surged through the defence to dive under the posts. Scott Chapman converted to end the half with Swindon 39-0 in the lead.

Warren opened up the scoring in the second half with his second of the game in similar fashion to the first. A blind side break from Knott drew the defence, and he passed out to the winger who used his pace to touch down in the corner.

Swindon then used all three substitutes, including a first senior start at prop for 18-year-old Danny Way. An injury to Neil Maycock, however meant that Swindon had to play the final 25 minutes with 14 men.

The shortage made no difference. From a line out just outside the 22, Wakefield sliced through the Drifters line. Chapman converted.

Wakefield got his hat-trick 10 minutes later after quality work from his pack. Chapman converted.

Sub Way got the final score when he touched down from a metre out, taking three defenders with him. Chapman converted.
