Supermarine have notched up 12 draws this season but Saturday's stalemate with promotion chasing Bromsgrove must be the most important, writes Leigh Moore.

Marine put in a gutsy performance to shut out the attacking prowess of their higher placed opponents and in doing so moved within touching distance of Southern League safety.

Mark Collier was left without a recognised striker in his squad after Swindon Town surprisingly recalled Lance Lewis at the 11th hour to appear in a youth match. Collier will have to deal with the lack of firepower once more in the coming weeks with Lewis, pictured, facing a one-match suspension after being sent off on Saturday for two bookable offences.

Marine were left with a much changed line up. Steve Davies dropped back to partner Roger Emms at centre half with Steve Bennett switching to left back, while Dave Gee and Karl Palmer were left to lead the attack.

It was the home side that threatened first with Steve Frost seeing his header well held by Tom King. The firm hand of King also denied the ever-dangerous Paul Szewczyk, after the Rovers hitman had got clear of Tony Joyce.

Marine should have taken the lead on 26 minutes. Rovers' Raid Erraji lost possession to Nathan Edwards only for Edwards to see his shot fly wide.

A resolute performance from the Marine rearguard limited the hosts to futile attempts from long range. Matthew Barnes-Homer had the best of the distance efforts but again King was equal to the strike.

With the first half drawing to a close Dave Gee was unlucky to see a decent goal bound shot strike the leg of Ross Collins.

The second half saw Marine's chances increase, however, the effort that came closet to opening the deadlock was a Rovers free-kick. Barnes-Homer went down easily after a strong challenge from Emms. The resulting Matt Johnson free-kick demanded yet another first class stop from King.

Bennett and Steve Jenkins both saw efforts from range well held by Matt Lowe before a heart stopping moment in the final minutes looked to have given Rovers the three points.

Arthur Appleton managed to beat King but Emms got back to clear off the line.
