POLICE patrols were needed to keep an eye on the M4 through Wiltshire after a major fault knocked out all the hazard signs.
The failure in the central matrix system between Membury Services and junction 18 at Bath meant no advance warning could be given if there were incidents on the motorway motorists needed to be warned about.
The problem was reported shortly before 5pm yesterday.
