Reach Inclusive Arts was established in 1983 and is a disability arts charity that seeks to provide innovative ways to entertain, involve and educate.
Its aim is to develop and nurture a disability arts culture, and involve disabled people in the artistic and cultural life through accessible activities. Reach acknowledges that artistic expression can increase levels of self esteem thereby enabling those with mental or physical disabilities to enjoy a richer quality of life and to develop the confidence to join other activities.
Reach has organised a series of therapeutic arts workshops based at St Andrews Church Centre. The workshops will be run by a group of accomplished artists many of whom have disabilities and are experienced practitioners with Reach projects. The course will explore a variety of arts mediums and the emphasis will be on enjoying new activities in a comfortable environment.
Reach is confident that this project will have a significant beneficial effect for those suffering from depression.
By performing in the community, disabled artists will be promoting inclusion and equality themselves. This is an opportunity for our disabled artists to use their expertise to help another excluded and vulnerable sector of the community. This project has the potential to improve the quality of lives by improving access to the arts and to change attitudes about the role of disabled people in society.
