THIEVES loaded packets of cigarettes worth £10,000 on to a bed sheet and then carried them to a waiting car, after raiding the Spar store in Station Road, Tidworth, over the weekend.
The raiders smashed the lock on the front door of the shop, and although this activated the alarm, they rushed to the cigarette counter and gathered up all the packets of popular brands, throwing them into a large sheet.
Before leaving, they also stole two MP3 players, worth about £400. The raid happened between 2.30am and 3am on Saturday morning and witnesses have described seeing three men, two white and one black, in the vicinity of the shop in a dark-coloured vehicle.
Detectives hunting the thieves are studying CCTV footage and have also appealed to anyone who might have been offered cheap cigarettes or an MP3 player to contact PC Charlotte Amos, at Tidworth police station, 01980 842303.
