NURSES keen to return to the profession after a career break have been denied the chance, because the primary care trust would not pay to retrain them.

All registered nurses who have had a gap in their employment are required to complete a Return to Nursing course to update their skills before they can go back to work.

However, for the past year, courses at Salisbury District Hospital have been scrapped because of lack of funding from the cash-strapped South Wiltshire primary care trust, which foots the bill.
