THE future vision of the region's largest waterway restoration project is scheduled to come under the spotlight later this month.
The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust is inviting supporters and other interested parties to attend a conference to discuss the progress of the scheme, which could cost more than £100m.
The Trust will reveal its ten-year plan. It is hoped the entire waterway will be reopened within the next 20 years.
Spokeswoman Jan Flanagan said: "There was a time when most people either didn't know about the Wilts & Berks Canal, or didn't think it could ever be restored.
"Now, the vast majority of people that we speak to are aware of our aims and objectives and as keen as we are to see the waterway brought back to life for everyone's benefit.
"It's no longer a case of if the canal will be restored, but when."
The canal was first promoted in 1793 as a means of providing cheap transport. It was closed in 1914.
l The conference will be at Ellendune Community Centre, Wroughton, between 9.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday, April 23.
