OLD Town and Lawn have been crowned Swindon's most energy efficient areas.
They were given the title in the Switch On Swindon competition, organised by the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
Old Town and Lawn have been awarded £4,000 by the sponsor, npower, towards community projects.
The aim of Switch On Swindon was to raise awareness about how to save energy in the home to help slow down climate change.
Since the competition started a year ago Swindon has saved the equivalent of 260 tonnes of carbon dioxide.
This is enough to fill 1,461 double decker buses, or the Brunel tower three times over.
More than 700 houses installed energy saving measures, ranging from low-energy light bulbs and energy-efficient appliances, to green electricity tariffs.
Two households even installed solar panels.
The trust is continuing the Switch On project, which is free to join. For information call 01380 725670.
