SAM Parkin has spoken of his tremendous pride after being selected for the Scotland Future Squad to face Austria next week.
The 24-year-old is one of 16 players chosen by Walter Smith as he looks to increase his options at senior international level.
Town boss Andy King received a call from the Scotland boss ahead of last night's 0-0 draw with Bristol City at the County Ground.
The manager passed the news on to one absolutely delighted 'Scottish' striker.
Parkin, who has represented England at Under 18 level, has a Scottish mother.
He will join up with the likes of Blackburn's Paul Gallagher and Brighton play-off 'villain' Adam Virgo on Sunday before heading out to Austria to prepare for Tuesday's game in Mattersburg.
It is a mixture of Under 21 players and those seen to be on the fringes of the senior squad.
Parkin said: "It's very good news and if I do well then it may give me a chance to play in the full team one day. I'm really looking forward to it.
"The manager told me before the City game that he'd had a phone call from Walter Smith and that I was definitely going to be involved.
"Hopefully it proves a stepping stone for me. To become a full international would be amazing but I'm keeping my feet firmly on the floor.
"I'm very proud though, of the call-up and of my Scottish roots.
"My mum's Scottish and she's the one who has chauffeured me around all these years and it will be lovely for her."
Parkin may have been born an Englishman but refuses to see the Scottish call as something of a consolation prize.
He said: "The Scottish thing has always been at the back of my mind.
"Realistically there is a better opportunity for me.
"Fingers crossed, it all goes well for me in Austria.
"I've had a quick browse through the squad list and there's some good players there.
"I'll probably be playing my football at the lowest level of those in there but hopefully I won't look out of place."
Manager Andy King is also delighted for his young striker.
He said: "It's fantastic for Sam.
"Walter Smith called to tell me that he wanted Sam to be part of the squad to go to Austria. I believe they fly out on Sunday morning."
