Hundreds of treasure hunters from across the county will be descending on a field near Hackpen Hill to help raise money for local charity.

Next Sunday, April 24, around 400 people armed with metal detectors and clad in wellies will take part in a mass metal search organised by the Wootton Bassett and District Rotary Club.

Participants have travelled from all over Britain to participate in the annual event, which will take place on land between Broad Hinton and Hackpen Hill.

Organisers have already buried 400 small items in the field for participants to find and there's always the chance that they might unearth a few genuine surprises.

Rotary club member Robert Collis said: "We always find something interesting like jewellery, or old buttons and Roman coins because there is so much history in this area and I think that's why there's so much interest in the event."

The treasure hunters pay to take part in the event and the money will go towards a local Swindon charity chosen by the landowner and other charities selected by the Rotary club.
