TROWBRIDGE LEAGUE: AFTER their shock draw against The Stiffs, two wins in three days has put Rudloe Reserves back into division three title contention.

Six players shared the goals in the 6-1 mid-week thrashing of Hilperton Reserves while a second half brace from Russell Gibbins and one from Sam Lye clinched a 3-0 victory over leaders St Andrews who had won 3-1 at FC Chippenham in their previous game.

Last night's visit of Rudloe was of paramount importance for one-time leaders Lavington who, after being hit by a Steve Mallard hat-trick in a shock 3-3 draw by Castle Combe A, were held again after Myles Hickton and Jamie Bayes had established another two-goal cushion at Frome Town Sports A.

Ben Derrick and Dave Dawley wiped the arrears out for Frome.

Rowde, who face a replay against Bradford and postponed against Semington Magpies in midweek, remained buoyant for a return to Division Two courtesy of a 6-2 thrashing of Calne Eagles who earlier had inflicted a 5-1 defeat. Eagles' Dan Thompson and Kevin Hammersley replied to doubles from Jamie Mullings and Adie Bridge, a Jon Knight header and Danny Fennell's opening own goal.

A 2-0 midweek win for Trowbridge Wanderers, Steve Coombes and Dave Cooper on target, over ten-men Bradford United Reserves kept Duncan Pugh's outfit in the promotion frame but four goals from Dan Phillips and one from Nathan Walker sent Wanderers crashing to a 5-0 reverse against Magpies who in the week had to stage a 3-1 fight back to share the spoils at Frome.

After holding Lavington, Castle Combe A moved two places up the table with hot-shot Steve Mallard on strike with two more in the 3-1 triumph over FC Chippenham for whom Will Couzens replied to another effort from Tim Spear.
