CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: IT took only four minutes for Mark Robinson to start the scoring as Dog and Fox Ashley maintained second place with a 7-2 win over Sherston Town.

Steve Roddy, Mark Gerrish and Robinson again made it 4-0 at the interval to the Dog. Sherston staged something of a revival in the second period with a Richard Lester double, but Steve Wikings soon added number five. Ricky Trott and Roddy (penalty) concluded the goal glut.

Westbury Rangers A had to battle hard to overcome a gutsy Bradford News side before taking two vital points in their quest to take the title.

The newsmen fielded a number of youngsters for their midweek clash and, although outplayed for long periods, dug deep and defended well to keep the score down as goals from Paul Beavers and Marc Lanfear earned Rangers a 2-0 victory.

Bradford News fared a little better on Sunday when they returned from Hullavington with a share of the spoils after earning a 1-1 draw. After a goalless first half Hullavington's Craig Samuels broke the deadlock when his shot went in off the upright. Russell Francis earned the Newsmen their point with a rasping strike from 20 yards.

Andy Wileman's 13th minute effort, his first of the season, earned Biddestone Social a 1-0 victory over Trowbridge Harriers.

CORSHAM Centre's 6-1 victory over North Bradley on Tuesday night coupled with their 5-2 defeat of North Star A at the weekend allowed them to open up a three point gap on Colerne at the top.

Simon Gray led the scoring against Bradley with four, Richard Boore hit Centre's fifth the club's 100th goal of the season and Jack Nicholas completed the half dozen. Leigh Trainer's stunning free kick was Bradley's only consolation.

The Centre were 3-0 up against the Star after just 15 minutes but from then on were made to work hard for their 17th straight league win of the season. The Star came back at the Centre and despite the scoreline they were unlucky not to get something from the game.

Rob Stevens (2) and Simon Gray struck for the Centre before Tommy Ludford's brilliant goal reduced the gap. Gray added a second to restore the Centre's three-goal cushion, but once again the Star hit back with Victor Long finding the net. Jack Nicholas netted the Centre's fifth with a blistering strike from 35 yards.

Colerne FC's last home game of the season resulted in them picking up two more points that keeps them in the second automatic promotion spot. Jamie Bowler became Colerne's leading hit man to date when his first half effort gave the villagers the lead. A superb header from Richard Smart doubled the score.

Winsley are still in search of a top two finish after they saw off the challenge of a very depleted Wingfield side, who took a 1-0 lead before suffering a 5-1 loss.

Wingfield started the brighter and indecision in Winsley's rearguard saw Ian Williams lob the ball home from 25 yards. Winsley levelled when Nick Ridout set-up Gary Higdon, who added a second after good work from Jamie Oliver.

Just before half time Carl Harfield made it 3-1 when his 30-yard drive deflected home. Winsley struck early in the second half through Dan Lardner who scored an unbelievable goal when he drove home from the edge of the centre circle, and Ridout completed the scoring two minutes from time.

North Bradley's hopes of avoiding relegation received a massive boost as goals from Neil Maidment and Daniel Foster gave them a 2-0 victory against Semington Rovers.

Chippenham Police were at a loss to explain their dreadful form against The Horse and Groom who were 7-2 to the good at the break. Three quick goals at the start of the second period saw them build a 10-2 advantage.

Police tightened things up and scored two more goals of their own to end up on the wrong end of a 10-4 scoreline. Paul Daly led the demolition with five goals, Paul Bendell hit four and Dave Appleyard completed the ten. Jason Roberts scored two in reply for the Police, one of which was a 30 yard thunderbolt and the other a neat header. Adam Davey and Tim Culling added the others.

DESPITE falling behind to a Steve North goal after just 20 seconds, Christian Malford hit back to claim a 5-1 success at Blue Circle.

Scott Evans (penalty) and Jamie Munns fired Malford into a 2-1 half time lead. Malford then went on to seal their win with two more from Evans which completed his hat-trick and took his personal tally to 41 for the season. Swindon-based Richard Bruce hit Malford's other goal.

King Alfred's shock 3-1 success over Potterne should mean they are safe from the dangers of the drop.

Potterne's Wesley Palmer cut the ball back for Peter Huntley to hammer the ball home from six yards before Alfred took charge with a hat-trick from the clinical Gavin Ferris, who scored two with his head.

AC Soho's 6-1 triumph over The Crown Devizes has moved them into fourth place and within striking distance of Potterne. Marcus Young (2), Luke Stoneham, Tyrone Prades, Stuart White and Jamie Collier all hit the target for Soho, with Ian Brown claiming The Crown's consolation who also saw Stuart Swann blast a penalty over the bar.

Southwick Sports stunned themselves and opponents Parsons Nose with their 8-0 win. Southwick's unlikely goal scoring hero was Neil Kendrick who bagged a hat-trick. Liam Brown (2), Stuart Greenwood and Andy Colebrooke added to Carl Davies early strike.

IN midweek, Pig & Whistle United boosted their hopes of claiming an automatic promotion spot after coming from behind twice to beat North Star B.

Darren Axford brilliantly lobbed the Star ahead, with Leigh Stevenson making it 1-1 before Chris Sampson gave the lead back to the Star. Paul McCarty drew United level and Aaron Richardson's 100th goal for United won them the game. On Sunday they fell behind to Kings Arms with Dan Shanley and Nathan Flower scoring, but United hit back and overcame the two goal deficit to bring an end to the Arms' 17-match winning run with a 3-2 victory. Stevenson rolled back the years with a well taken treble.

FC Bradford trailed White Horse FC 2-1 deep into injury time when they won a penalty which was converted by Mike Embleton to earn them a 2-2 draw. This was after Steve Bryant saw his opening goal wiped out by strikes from Gary Perrett and Mark Pugh.

North Star B were another team who surrendered a two-goal lead as Sir Audley Arms recovered from the early set back to win 4-2.

Darren Axford and Chris Sampson had put the Star in charge before Steve Mallard and Kieron Smith struck to bring the scoreline level before the interval. Smith then put the Arms ahead and he completed his hat-trick with two minutes left.

Virgin Mobile took the lead against Westbury Rangers B, but Dave Grandey's strike counted for nothing as Rangers netted two second half goals to run out 2-1 winners. Shane Rendell and Richard Wyatt scored for a Rangers side who have see a reversal in fortunes since Dave Griffin has taken over at the helm.

TUESDAY night's 3-2 surprise defeat for Rowde Dynamos at AFC Pilot saw them miss out on the opportunity to take over at the top of Division Four.

And although they were given a second chance to topple leaders Bar OC they were unable to take it as injuries forced them to postpone Sunday's game with Pack Horse Rangers.

Goals from Nigel Hall and Lee Jackson within three minutes of the start had Pilot flying high. Ashley Edwards pounced after a mix up in Pilot's defence to reduce the gap and Jamie Mullins hit back to tie the game at 2-2, only for Rob O'Harrow to hit the bulls eye and make Pilot the first team to beat Rowde in 17 games.

As the top half of the table remains unchanged, the bottom half saw a lot of movement with Cooper Avon, who beat AFC Springfield 3-2, relegating AFC Melksham to the foot of the table.

Kyle Mather and Bruce Newman put Cooper 2-0 up, before a penalty from Scott Fleming and late goal from substitute Owen Cranshaw levelled matters. Cooper's old warrior Shane Thornton then slotted home to give his side the points.

Adam Bewley and Rob Mitchell were on target for The Crown as they defeated KSM 2-0. Luke Gough was outstanding for the winners who were without their manager Matty Bulman due to wok commitments.

Corsham Town will stage the game (2.30pm) which is between Premier Division Westbury Rangers A and First Division leaders Corsham Centre who are bidding to becoming the first team from outside the top flight to lift the cup.
