A NEW kit has brought new fortune for Devizes Town but boss Mark Godley says three his team's wins on the trot is nothing to do with what they are wearing.

The Screwfix Premier Division outfit began the month at the wrong end of the table but three wins have moved them towards safety.

The Rising Sun-sponsored shirts have brought nothing but luck for the Nursteed Road outfit, delivering three 1-0 wins including a surprise triumph at high flyers Frome on Tuesday night.

But the manager is not superstitious and believes the victories have been the result of greater desire and commitment.

Godley said: "I am a firm believer that you don't get anything in life unless you work hard. We have won these games because we have worked at it and upped our levels."

The result leaves Devizes eight points clear of the drop zone with five games left and although Godley is delighted with the current form he has warned his side they are still not safe.

"The lads deserve a lot of credit but they have not achieved anything yet," he said.

"It is down to them now, they have to stay focused. It is in our own hands, all we can do is concentrate on ourselves."

The Rising Sun agreed a two-year deal with the Nursteed Road outfit which started this month to mark the reopening of the Devizes pub.

Tuesday's win against Frome completed the side's best run of form in the league this season. Godley said the win was even more of a shock considering his side was short of six key players. Nick Mooney and Dave Kilmurray were suspended, Dave Lloyd, Nathan Sheridan and Jon Scott were injured, and Brian Kayll had work commitments.

"The result was remarkable as we had so many players missing. This is a massive win for us and I am a little bit surprised," said Godley.

"Over the 90 minutes we just edged it but it was a close game . The lads deserved it and it was definitely not a fluke.

"The important thing now is that we build on the result and keep picking up points."

The manager felt the result might have been different if had not been for the efforts of the three centre backs Ashley Nicholls, Andy Coombe and Lee Beavis.

The winner came with just 20 minutes to play when keeper Andy King launched a long kick into the Frome half. Striker Dave Macey brought the ball under control, beat his marker and blasted into the top corner.
