CHRISTIAN Malford striker Scott Evans has the Gazette Golden Boot within his grasp after a hat-trick on Sunday moved him five clear of Somerford's Chris Yeo.
The twice Chippenham Sunday League player of the year took his tally to 41 goals, scored in just 20 Division Two matches, with four games left to play.
Builder Evans, 25, is hoping his goals will be enough to fire the leaders to promotion. He said: "It is great to be scoring regularly as it gives you lots of confidence."
The striker, who lives in Pewsham, is not worried about topping charts or breaking records.
But if he were to be named player of the year again it would make league history.
He added: "I am just concentrating on my performances. The award is voted for by other teams so it is rewarding to know that other people are recognising me for something I love doing."
Malford secretary Alex Blake believes they would not be challenging for the title without Evans, who is signed on by Screwfix title chasers Corsham as cover.
He said: "He is a loyal servant and a great player.''
