IN Swindon borough we currently have nearly 300,000m2 of empty industrial/warehouse space, over 100,000m2 of empty office space and 5,000 unbuilt (and four year overdue) houses in the Northern Development Area.
To put this in perspective, this is equivalent to: 12 empty Renault buildings, 18 empty Aspen Houses (the vacant 12 storey office block in Temple Street) and an unbuilt town the size of Wootton Bassett. The proposals for the Triangle will add another six empty Renault buildings.
What madness has possessed the council, the South West Regional Assembly and the Government to suggest the continuing expansion of Swindon?
It is like Swindon is being developed into some sort of bizarre full sized museum of the 20th century, populated by councillors wandering around saying "ooh, aah, isn't it lovely, shame there's nobody here but never mind".
