HAVING read letters on the injustice shown to people who, having paid in a private pension scheme all their working life to be sure of a steady income, find they are now above the threshold for pension credit.

Many pay more than double the amount in tax than they receive in the so called benefits, ie fuel allowance and 25 per cent rebate on council tax etc.

They find that they are worse off than those receiving pension credit, with free dental treatment, spectacles, 100 per cent rebate on council tax, etc.

No one minds paying tax for those in need, but should not all pensioners receive the same amount?

A vast saving could be made in administration costs.
