CHIPPENHAM NEWS: CHILDREN are being encouraged to walk to school by teachers in Chippenham.
Letters were sent home from Abbeyfield Secondary School to parents over the Easter holidays asking drivers to stop parking in bus bays.
The school is also writing a development plan to encourage more youngsters to walk to school or share lifts.
A survey has already showed more than 50 per cent of children walk or cycle to school.
Teacher Linda Stewart said: "A lot of children do have to be taken to school by car but we would like to see more car sharing.
"Children get good exercise by walking to school, it encourages social skills and means less cars around the school next year when we expand."
The warning, which appeared in the newsletter Abbeyfield News, alerted parents that two children had nearly been knocked down by motorists in recent weeks.
